Rocky Marciano's Punching Bags

Rocky Marciano’s Personal Punching Bags

Rocky Marciano is the Only Undefeated Heavyweight Champion of the World. September 21st 1955, Rocky Marciano threw his last punch as a professional boxer knocking out Archie Moore in the ninth round, retiring with a 49 and 0 record 43 by knockout. Marciano was known for his powerful punch, knocking out most of his opponents in the first few rounds. In the ‘50’s Rocky designed two punching bags for his personal use. The smaller one-hundred-pound bag measures 48″ high, with a 50″ circumference. Then there’s the ‘BIG’ bag, a 200-pound monster.

Message from Bag's Owner

Not only are these bags ‘One of a Kind’, but they are also a part of History. Any boxing fan or collector can agree that Rocky was and is one of the most powerful punchers in the sports history, and that there is no other Undefeated Heavy Weight Champion of the World with a 49 and 0 record.  And last, but not least is the story behind the bags.

Our family has had possession of the bags for over 50 years. My wife’s uncle, Pete DiGravio and Rocky were close friends and business partners. When Rocky retired, he gave Pete the bags as a gift. (see video for full story)

A funny story…

A few years ago, I thought it would be a good idea to get the bags a little attention, so I contacted Left Field Productions, who produces the television show, ‘Pawn Stars’. I knew these boys would not purchase the bags, but it would be good for the both of us.  During the filming at the end of production they had to figure a way out of the purchase and decided to say they could not authenticate that they were the exact same bags, as stated.  Even though I have seven affidavits and photographs of family and Rocky authenticating the bags, they decided that was they’re best way out.

This is the funny part of the story…

After the show aired, within 60 days I received a phone call from Lou Marciano, Rocky’s brother. The first thing out of Lou’s mouth was, “Hi Scotty, I saw the Pawn Stars show and those are undoubtedly Rocky’s personal bags.  We shared stories, and I am proud to say Lou is a good friend of mine now.

These bags need a new home.

Someone else can appreciate the raw beauty of the worn leather and groves Rocky himself has made. Please only serious inquiries.

Email me if interested in discussing the opportunity.
